Fascism: Is Italy’s government allowing the past to live on? | BBC News

Italy’s current government is led by the Brothers of Italy party, which has roots in post-war fascism.

Its leader, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, has said her movement has completely changed and that it is clear her politics are not those of the people raising their arms in Milan.

But some fear she and her party have not moved far enough away from their political origins and that what was once considered the extreme is becoming mainstream.

Ms Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party bears the same three-coloured flame logo adopted by neo-fascist groupings after the second world war, but she has progressively shifted her movement away from the far right.

BBC’s Mark Lowen looks into the world of neo-fascism in Italy for BBC InDepth.

  1. It is important to note that this kind of celebrations has always been held regardless of the government being left or right leaning.

It's called freedom of thought, and we all have to accept the downsides.

In fact there's plenty of communists and noone is startled by that.

  2. 12:05 the MSI (former fascists first party) – as a part of the italian parliamebt – did indeed try to support an italian government in the early 60s, but the socialists and communists violently revolted, and so the main party bargained to preserve the peace and exclude civil war.

  3. These stories are continually put out by the left. They must put fear into the people so that their crazy ideology will be accepted. Before you call someone who is conservative a facist understand what road lead people to defend themselves from crazy liberal rhetoric. I am from
Italy and I must say this video is highly exaggerated.

  5. And what's wrong with Fascism? Hitler was a National Socialist, so don't even try to tell me 'Fascism is what angry German man was'. But seriously, what's wrong with Fascism? Because of state control? State control is found in Communist ideologies, yet I see no critics of it, at least not on this level.

  6. History is written by the victors, Sir. Winston Churchill. The National Socialism or Fascism creation and origin, really comes from the abuse, greed and inhumanity from Communism and the Zionism bankers. Which were the ones who really helped to destroy Germany, part of Europe and made possible the rise of the Third Reich which really hate was against the International Communism and Zionism bankers abuse, degradation and humiliation against the German nation, people and the rest of Europe, since WW1. The truth exists. Only the lies are invented, Georges Braque.
