Italian PM Giorgia Meloni Is Under Investigation
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said she was under judicial investigation over the unexpected release of a Libyan man named Osama Najim, who had been wanted for war crimes by the International Criminal Court (ICC). In a video message shared on social media, Meloni said that prosecutors suspect her of embezzlement and helping with a crime. Najim was arrested in Italy on January 21, but was released just days later due to a “legal technicality.” The ICC, which claimed it wasn’t consulted, issued a new arrest warrant for Najim and demanded an explanation from the Italian authorities.
