The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, chaired a meeting at Palazzo Chigi today on implementation of the Italy-Albania Protocol.
The meeting was attended by: the Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, who joined via video link; the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi; the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto; the Minister for European Affairs, the NRRP and Cohesion Policy, Tommaso Foti; and Undersecretary of State Alfredo Mantovano, who is delegated authority for security services.
Also in light of the recent ruling by the Italian Court of Cassation, which indicated the responsibilities regarding determination of safe countries of origin at national level, the meeting reiterated the firm intention to keep working, together with EU partners and in line with the Conclusions of the European Council of 19 December, on so-called ‘innovative solutions’ to the migration phenomenon.
President Meloni also shared the strong consensus that has emerged in this regard, also during the meeting with the Member States that have the most interest in this issue, which was organised together with the Danish and Dutch Prime Ministers and held in the margins of the last European Council.
