Meeting on the case of Alberto Trentini held at Palazzo Chigi

A meeting was held at Palazzo Chigi this morning to discuss the situation of Italian citizen Alberto Trentini, a humanitarian worker being detained in Venezuela, together with another seven Italian-Venezuelan citizens who have recently been arrested. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano, the heads of the intelligence service and the Chief of Police, Vittorio Pisani.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Embassy in Caracas have been following the case of Alberto Trentini with the utmost attention from the very start, activating all possible channels to ensure a positive and swift solution.

The Government reiterates the need for the press to maintain the utmost discretion in order to facilitate a positive outcome.

During the meeting, Minister Tajani had a telephone conversation with Alberto Trentini’s mother to express the support of the institutions and to assure her of their commitment.
