President Meloni meets with the Lebanese Prime Minister

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the Prime Minister of the Lebanese Republic, Najib Mikati, at Palazzo Chigi today.

President Meloni confirmed the Italian Government’s commitment to supporting the ceasefire in Lebanon, also recalling the crucial role Italy plays through its contingent in the UNIFIL mission and its command of the Military Technical Committee for Lebanon, whose task is to coordinate international support for the Lebanese armed forces.

During the conversation, the situation in Syria was also discussed. President Meloni stressed the need to preserve Syria’s unity and territorial integrity as well as the importance of ensuring inclusiveness and the protection of minorities.

In closing, President Meloni shared with Prime Minister Mikati the urgent need to create the conditions for refugees to be able to return on a voluntary basis and in a safe, dignified and sustainable way.
