President Meloni’s statement on day of remembrance for military and civilian personnel who have lost their lives on international peacekeeping missions

On the day of remembrance for military and civilian personnel who have lost their lives on international peacekeeping missions, Italy pays tribute to the 19 Italians who were killed in the Nassiriya massacre 21 years ago, on 12 November 2003. That awful attack will forever be etched in our minds.

On this poignant day of remembrance, our gratitude goes to all those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, together with mine and the entire Italian Government’s thanks to the men and women of the Armed Forces who, serving even in the most difficult areas, work every day to build peace, with dedication, a deep sense of humanity and love for their homeland.

Italy shall not forget.
