Statement by President Meloni on General Aoun being elected President of the Lebanese Republic

I would like to extend both mine and the Italian Government’s congratulations to General Joseph Aoun on being elected President of the Lebanese Republic.

I firmly believe that President Aoun will be a strong and reliable leader for Lebanon, a nation that is a friend of Italy and with which we share historical and deep ties.

Italy will continue to contribute to peace and prosperity in Lebanon, also through the constant and generous commitment of its military personnel serving on the UNIFIL mission and the bilateral MIBIL mission.

I am certain that our long-standing cooperation is destined to grow even further, supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty and the reconstruction and revitalisation of its economy.

Lebanon knows that it can always count on Italy’s support and friendship.
