Subscribe here: https://bit.ly/eudebates On the release of the third installment of the Italian Pnrr, the EU Commission and the Italian authorities “are working in a very positive way”. This was stated by the European Commissioner for the Economy, Paolo Gentiloni, upon his arrival at the informal Ecofin meeting in Stockholm, answering a question on the evaluation by the European Commission of the third Italian installment, scheduled for tomorrow, and on its possible extension.

The European Union is proud to be the global leader in support for Ukraine and will continue to support Kiev with the same commitment. “Today, also with the presence of Ukrainian Finance Minister Marchenko, we face the challenge of continuing to support Ukraine. We are proud of the fact that the EU is a global leader in supporting Kiev, but we must continue and we must start thinking about reconstruction, even if the Russian invasion is still ongoing,” he said. On the possible renewal, also for 2024, of the EU’s macro-financial assistance of 18 billion euros, which Marchenko has foreseen the need for, Gentiloni explained that the discussions will be conditioned by the future EU budget, but confirmed his willingness to continue supporting Kiev.

“In the times and ways that the Italian Government and Parliament decide, Italy’s ratification of the European Stability Mechanism should not be in question. It was decided more than two years ago”.

So the European Commissioner for the Economy, Paul Gentiloniarriving at the informal Ecofin-Eurogroup in Stockholm, clarifies what member countries expect from Italy, the only one that has not yet ratified the changes to the Mes.

Gentiloni also took the opportunity to take up the proposal to reform the Stability Pact presented this week by the Commission: for Gentiloni the fact that there are critical reactions in Germany, but also in the opposite direction from other parts such as Italy “could mean either that we really have a very good and balanced proposal or that we live on another planet, but we don’t live on another planet”. Today on the theme “as they say in diplomacy I expect a constructive attitude”, he explained. “The differences between the various countries” “are obviously there”, but “we are committed to a dialogue. It is a very first opportunity we will have many others, but I am confident that the basis provided by the commission can facilitate”.

“Europe has done a lot and is proud of it. Certainly, the discussion on next year, from the point of view of exact figures and numbers, is conditioned by the discussion we are launching on the Union’s annual budget. But without a doubt we will continue our support with the same commitment as in recent years,” she said.
