The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met today with the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, at Palazzo Chigi.
The two leaders had an in-depth exchange of views on the main issues on the European and international agenda ahead of the European Council meetings to be held in March, with particular reference to the conflict in Ukraine and European and Euro-Atlantic security and defence, but also competitiveness and the fight against irregular immigration.
With regard to the latter, President Meloni took the opportunity to thank Prime Minister Kristersson for the support expressed for Italy’s positions in the preliminary ruling proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union regarding the ‘safe country of origin’ concept.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to highlight the excellent bilateral relations and to discuss possibilities to strengthen them further in areas of mutual interest, with a particular focus on innovation and space.
