Days after PM Modi’s Kyiv tour, Italy PM Georgia Meloni met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Both leaders held discussions on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict at the Cernobbio Business Forum. Italian PM Giorgia Meloni said that she ‘believes India can play a role in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict’. Meloni’s remarks followed similar comments from Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s comment, who had earlier said that “India can stop Putin”. Notably, India has emerged as a key player amid the conflicts due to its strong diplomatic ties with war-ravaged nations.
Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni said, “I believe actor nations like China and India have a role to play and must play a role to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. The only thing that cannot happen, gentlemen, is to think that the conflict can be solved by abandoning Ukraine to its fate because that will not bring peace, it will bring chaos, it will bring wars closer to home, and it will bring many economic consequences, all the more serious than what it costs today to support Ukraine. The choice of supporting Ukraine has been first and foremost a choice of national interest, and it’s a choice that won’t change
