Italy Deputy Minister for Enterprises Valentino Valentini broke down Italy’s intention with tighter border controls.
Mr Valentini’s comments follow praise for Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her approach to immigration policies.
“Firstly, we try to address the drivers of immigration that is to say in order to stem the flow of migrants, we try to set up a series of agreements with the countries that border the Mediterranean,” Mr Valentini told Sky News host Danica De Giorgio.
“Secondly, we need people to realise that this is no longer a place you can freely go.
“Thirdly, we try to go against what we consider the human traffickers.”
