President Meloni’s telephone conversation with European Council President Costa

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the President of the European Council, António Costa, ahead of the informal meeting on European defence to be held on 3 February.

During the call, President Meloni stressed the need to concretely strengthen NATO’s European pillar, also with regard to the competitiveness of European industry in this sector, through full complementarity of the EU’s defence initiatives and programmes.

The two leaders also shared the importance and urgency of working on new and more effective joint instruments in order to support the substantial investments needed.
