Statement by President Meloni on the situation in Lebanon

I am closely following the dramatic situation in Lebanon and am in constant contact with the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Protecting civilians remains the priority, together with ensuring the safety of the military personnel serving in the Italian contingent of UNIFIL who are present in the south of Lebanon.

Italy will keep working with its allies for the stabilisation of the Israel-Lebanon border and the return of displaced persons to their homes.

De-escalation at regional level is urgent and necessary and Italy will continue to do its part also as G7 President.
